Update regarding SIPPA minimum eligibility requirements NAC OSCE (2023.07.24)
Effective immediately, a PASS standing on the NAC Examination (NAC OSCE) will be accepted to meet the SIPPA pre-screen eligibility requirements. This change applies to all sittings of the NAC examination, March 2013* forward.
A PASS standing on either the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part II (MCCQE2) exam OR the NAC Examination (NAC OSCE)* will be accepted to meet this SIPPA pre-screen eligibility requirement.

CPSS expected to start licensing Physician Assistants soon (2023.07.20)
Amendments to The Medical Profession Act, 1981, not yet in effect, will give the College the authority to license physician assistants (PA) (see also DocTalk). The Government of Saskatchewan has stated that it intends to create 12 physician assistant positions in the healthcare system in Saskatchewan.
Physician assistants (PAs) have specific training, and most will have completed training at one of the three current PA programs – Manitoba Masters of PA studies, McMaster University PA Education Program or PA Consortium (University of Toronto/NOSM/Michener). They also complete the PA Entry to Practice Examination offered by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada.
The CPSS has approved bylaws that set standards for physician assistant licensure and set out conditions for PAs to work in Saskatchewan. Those requirements include supervision by a physician and filing a practice plan which must be approved by the Registrar. Once the Minister approves the bylaws, the College will be able to license individuals to practise as physician assistants in Saskatchewan. Stay tuned.
International Credential Recognition Grant (CRG) (2023.05.15)

This program is intended to assist internationally trained healthcare providers to get credentials they need to work in Saskatchewan in the occupation in which they are trained.
Upcoming changes to Supervised Practice for SIPPA PRA Graduates (2022.08.31)

Emergency Bylaw 2.18 Rescinded Effective July 15, 2022 (2022.08.31)

On 20 March, 2020, Dr. Karen Shaw, the College’s Registrar, made a declaration of an emergency under Bylaw 2.18 to expedite licensing physicians to meet the needs of the Saskatchewan population during the Covid pandemic.
Effective 15 July, 2022, the Registrar rescinds this declaration of an emergency and the provisions of this Bylaw are no longer in effect.

Launch of the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) Service (2022.01.21)
On January 20, 2022, the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) announced the launch of its new Licentiate of Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) service. This signals MCC is ready to process LMCC requests for candidates who meet the established criteria.
If you meet the criteria, you can request and pay the LMCC Application fee through your physiciansapply.ca account. Through this portal, the MCC will issue the LMCC.

While CPSS will have access to verify that you have been awarded the LMCC through physiciansapply.ca, we will not receive notice from either MCC or from physiciansapply.ca. As such, we ask that you please email cpssreg-assess@cps.sk.ca to inform us if you have been awarded your LMCC, as this may have a positive impact on your current licensure status.

Implementing and issuing the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) (2021.07.18)
Effective June 29, 2021, the MCC has introduced a new service to be able to grant the LMCC to individuals who meet all of the criteria. Qualified candidates will also be enrolled in the Canadian Medical Register in accordance with the MCC’s existing Policy on Registration in the Canadian Medical Register. Click here to read more.
MCC no longer offering MCCQE2; precipitates changes to CPSS licensure requirements (2021.07.05)
The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) announced on June 10, 2021 that it is stepping away from the delivery of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part II going forward. The full MCC statement can be found here.
The College will accept the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) designation based on the new criteria and we are currently awaiting further communication from MCC on next steps.
Registrants and applicants who are now eligible to obtain the LMCC should contact the MCC.
